The event, which took place from 2–4 March, provided hands-on product experience and thought-provoking debates on sustainable design, construction and the built environment. As well as attending the event, Davis Langdon was asked to speak and lead discussions on various issues including sustainable schools, zero carbon homes and wind/solar energy trading.

John Connaughton, Partner at Davis Langdon, chaired the seminar on ‘Finding the right solutions for the right applications’. ”Ecobuild always presents a good opportunity for  people to develop a better understanding of how they can improve sustainability and the seminars are an impressive forum for stimulating debate.  As a firm, Davis Langdon always actively seeks to lead the way in understanding the issues and driving progress in the area of sustainability.  In fact, for over a year, Davis Langdon has hosted a series of monthly meetings with speakers from leading industrialists in solar technology and with senior representatives of government bodies. These discussions put the issues in perspective and drive the progress of renewable technologies.”

Simon Rawlinson, Head of Davis Langdon’s Research and Professional Development, who chaired the discussion on ‘Sustainable school: lessons learnt so far’ said: ‘There is a great amount of pressure being applied to schools to reduce costs and become more efficient. The opportunity for sustainable refurbishment projects, as an alternative to rebuild, is becoming increasingly attractive to decision makers. With the help of strategic consultants DEGW, Davis Langdon is in a great position to help schools accomplish their efficiency and sustainability goals’.

Ed Brown, Sustainability Partner spoke on ‘Clarifying the zero carbon conundrum’ – sharing his views on the Government’s 2016 zero carbon homes target and the related issues since its launch three years ago.

Ecobuild was also a good opportunity for Davis Langdon to reveal its Carbon Assessor tool in a joint venture with energy software specialists Integrated Environmental Solutions. The Carbon Assessor is a new online tool for energy and carbon management that will help users meet their obligations under the CRC Energy Efficiency scheme.

With 1000 exhibitors and over 500 speakers, Ecobuild is one of the world’s largest and most comprehensive showcases on sustainable buildings and design. The exhibition provides practical seminars and demonstrations on the latest sustainable products and materials as well as an extensive conference and seminar programme on a range of subjects from design to policy development.
