This study was conducted by the University of California at Berkeley to determine the total dollar value of anticipated reconstruction costs on the campus in the event of a major seismic event, including damage to both structural and non-structural elements.

The study found to evaluate the level at which damage became so severe that the construction community in the Bay Area might be overwhelmed. The study also examined the costs of minimizing the expected damage through seismic retrofitting.
