This eight story facility houses research laboratories for the structural and chemical biology, molecular cell, and developmental biology departments for the university campus. Also included are a vivarium, a large lecture auditorium, and nanotechnology and computer imaging labs. This building was designed with a goal to foster interaction between the researchers and departments, so labs are organized in clusters with no walls between, and there are meeting spaces and commons areas throughout the building.
The surrounding site includes an atrium, outdoor promenade, and outdoor teaching amphitheater. A mandate for the university requires that all new facilities be designed to meet the criteria for LEED certification.
