Services Engaged Cost Planning and Value Engineering

The completion of this project marked the conclusion of a six year effort to design, secure funding and construct the 21,000 square foot visitor center.  Davis Langdon’s involvement spanned most of this period with heavy involvement in early cost planning for the building and site and then integration of the exhibits component. We also facilitated a critical Value Engineering workshop that steered the project towards its financial objectives whilst largely preserving the function and form of the building.

There were many challenges in forecasting the cost due to unique features such as a building structure of heavy timber, a sophisticated sloping curtain wall element, extensive use of wood and stone finishes and features, relatively limited local contractor expertise, and a remote site and severe winter weather conditions which at times, due to 7’ of snow, severely restricted construction activities.

Davis Langdon will continue to provide cost management services for the Grant Teton Visitor Center as an auditorium addition is planned to start design this fall.
